Christmas is a time for togetherness. For being among our own and those who matter most to us — though it isn’t always possible to be present when we want to be most. The truth is that there are over 6,000 children who don’t have that luck: the luck of having a family that shows up. That is why foster families exist: temporary families who take in children and young people in vulnerable situations, whose greatest Christmas wish isn’t something material, as many of us are used to, but a family that is there to welcome them and hold them close. The placement may be temporary, but the impact on these children’s lives is eternal.
